This is a review written in Korean by our customer Bokyoung Yoon and SodaGift team translated in English.
Living in the US for already eight years, I've always wanted to keep up with sending gifts for my family and friends' birthdays every year. But it's been challenging since all my Korean credit cards have expired, and signing up for websites in Korea can be complex without a Korean phone number, which has always been a concern.
For my parents' birthdays, sending money is an option, but for my friends' birthdays, I wished there was something as simple as KakaoTalk Gift. Luckily, I found SodaGift and have been using it well. I often use it to send gifts from the US to Korea; I've sent beef gift sets to my parents for Lunar New Year and often send Starbucks coupons or CJ ONE gift cards to my friends.
Recently, SodaGift expanded its services not only to send gifts from anywhere in the world to Korea but also added countries like the USA, Canada, Australia, the UK, Singapore, and the Philippines where you can send gifts. I had a great opportunity to be selected for a trial in the US, where they delivered a gift set of jokbal/pork bulgogi/pork belly.
The order process was so convenient as they sent shipping information via text precisely. Knowing the exact delivery time made it easy to confirm whether the gift was received well, which is especially important for perishable items like food.
When the delivery person handed it over, I opened the box to find the meat well-packed and frozen, surrounded by ice packs. It was marked in both Korean and English, which made me think it would be a great gift for my American friends who enjoy Korean food. Living in LA, I have many opportunities to enjoy Korean cuisine, but the US is vast, and there are still many places where it's hard to find Korean food or markets. It's to the point where some Korean Americans come to LA for their vacations just to go on food tours, haha.
The jokbal was placed on a strainer and steamed, making it chewy and bouncy as if it was just made. I wrapped it in lettuce and it was delicious. For the beef bulgogi, I added mushrooms and cabbage, with a bit of water and soy sauce, and ate it as a hot pot dish – it was a meal done in no time! I was surprised at the quality, better than many of the restaurants in Koreatown. It would be the perfect gift for Korean friends who miss the taste of home.
In addition to the jokbal, bulgogi, and spicy pork bulgogi I tried, there are also convenient gifts like gift cards, as well as flower delivery, Korean food, and Korean cosmetics available, which I find great. In Korea, gifting gift cards is very convenient as long as you know the recipient's phone number, while in the US, gift cards are often still sent physically. This makes it perfect for keeping up with friends' birthdays who live far away. There's nothing as convenient as a gift card for casually expressing thanks!
And below, I've included the link to the delicious meat gift set I enjoyed! I hope you find it easy to take care of gifts for your family, friends, and acquaintances!
